South Medford High's Lindsey Thomas was one of four soccer players to sign recently with Western Oregon University.

Thomas was a second-team all-Southwest Conference selection as a defender last fall.

"Lindsey is an extremely versatile player that has the ability to step in and play right away," said Western Oregon women's soccer coach Rod Fretz. "She has great ball control, sees the field well and has learned to compete against the top club players in the northwest."

Also signing with the Wolves were Wilsonville's Melinda Ingalls, Monique Thees of Camano Island, Wash., and Ciara Peterson of Puyallup, Wash.

Southern Oregon University announced Friday that Raider alum Bobby Heiken will return to the school as its sports information director beginning in June.

Heiken, a 1997 SOU graduate, currently serves in a similar post at Western State College in Gunnison, Colo.

Prior to his work at Western State, Heiken spent five years working at the Ashland Daily Tidings, including two years as sports editor. He also worked for ESPN Radio in Medford.

Heiken will take over at SOU on June 1 and replace Pete Belcastro, the Raiders' long-time radio announcer who assumed interim duties in October 2007.
