Zachary Peter Judson Taylor received his Eagle Scout Award on Sept. 30, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.

Zachary Peter Judson Taylor received his Eagle Scout Award on Sept. 30, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Medford.

His Eagle Project included installing new plants and bark in the planters in front of the Medford Post Office. He and his team also installed new green benches.

Taylor has been in Scouts since first grade, from Tiger Cub Scout in Pack 41 at Griffin Creek Elementary to Webelos in Pack 41 to Boy Scout in Troops 111, 777 and 5. He has attended many summer camps and merit badge workshops.

Taylor served as den chief and instructor in Troop 5. He earned distinction as a member of the Order of the Arrow and completed Junior Leader training and God and Family Study. He has earned 31 merit badges including first aid, emergency preparedness, environmental science, family life, camping, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in the world, Indian lore, lifesaving, personal fitness, personal management, space exploration and swimming.

During the summer, Taylor is a lifeguard and swim instructor for the city of Medford and he assisted in saving two boys from drowning in a local pool.

He is a senior at South Medford High School and plans to pursue a college degree and become a fireman or a fire inspector.
