The following North Medford High School students won medals and trophies for their performances at the state DECA competition on Feb. 24-27 in Portland. The top thee placers receive trophies for overall and qualify for nationals; the top 10 overall receive medals.

The following North Medford High School students won medals and trophies for their performances at the state DECA competition on Feb. 24-27 in Portland. The top thee placers receive trophies for overall and qualify for nationals; the top 10 overall receive medals.

Chuck Rentz finished second in state overall in "Quick Serve Restaurant Management" (trophy for second place overall and a medal for second place finish in individual role play and qualified for nationals in Atlanta on April 26-29).

Brittany Griffor finished second in state overall in "Sports and Entertainment Marketing" (trophy for second place overall and medal for first place finish in individual role play — qualified for nationals in Atlanta on April 26-29).

Jacob Colmenero finished fifth in state overall in "Retail Merchandising" (medal for top 10 overall-out of 106 competitors).

Casey Wold finished seventh in state overall in "Retail Merchandising" (medal for top 10 overall and a medal for third on individual role playout of 106 competitors).

Cory Wetzel finished fourth in state overall in "Food Marketing" (medal for top 10 overall and qualified for nationals as an alternate).

Kasey Parsons took third place on "Food Marketing role play" (medal for individual role play).

Students compete in various marketing occupational categories such as Automotive, Retail Merchandising, Apparel and Accessories, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Internet Marketing, Restaurant Management, Quick Serve Management, Food Marketing, Business Law, Hospitality, Travel and Tourism and Hotel Management.

Students demonstrate their knowledge through a 100 question test and two occupational role plays with a judge who is in the profession of the category of competition. Medals are handed out for the top three placers in the written test section and for the top three placers in each of the two role plays. The competitors scores are averaged between the test and two role plays and the top three qualify for nationals in Atlanta on April 26.
