Prior to the inaugural girls and boys Mail Tribune All-Star Basketball Classic on Saturday evening, players entertained the crowd in a skills competition.

The competition included a timed dribbling-shooting contest, a timed 3-point contest and an impromptu dunk contest.

Hidden Valley's Megan Swanson won the finals of the girls' dribbling-shooting contest, where players dribbled the length of the court, weaving in and out of cones through one stretch, then made a layup and free throw.

Swanson won with a time of 22.69, just ahead of Ashland's Allison Gida, who finished in 23.31. Andi Vondra of Cascade Christian took third in 25.76.

South Medford's Mitch Singler earned first in the boys' dribble-shoot competition with a time of 19.47, edging out Dakota Gordon of Prospect. Gordon finished in 20.72, while Rogue River's Carson Frantz finished third in 21.15.

Phoenix's Chelsea Passante made eight 3-pointers in 30 seconds to win the girls 3-point contest. Grants Pass' Natasha Torgerson and Gida tied for second with five each.

Gordon won the boys' 3-point contest by making nine. Singler finished second with four and Frantz took third with two.

There were no awards given in the dunk competition, but Frantz and North Medford's Danny Berger put on a show for the crowd, each throwing down three.

The inaugural event drew a near-capacity crowd at the South Medford gym. The actual games will be aired on Southern Oregon EDS (Charter Channel 16) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and on Ashland TV (Channel 98), also Wednesday at 5.
