Mary Jane Gere



Mary Jane Gere, 80, of Medford, died on March 21, 2008, of complications from esophageal cancer.



Mary Jane was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on April 17, 1927, to David and Davie Kaster. She lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for 20 years, before moving to Medford in 1977. She retired as the secretary of First Christian Church 10 years ago.



She had a life-long passion for opera, and was a founding member of Rogue Opera. She was an avid backpacker for many years and also enjoyed gardening , needlework, and reading. She had a profound knowledge of English history and culture and visited Great Britain seven times.



She is survived by her daughter, Emily Gere and partner, Richard Koch of Menlo Park, Calif.; her daughter, Wendy Gere, and husband, Doug Mason, of Medford; her grandsons, Jared Mason-Gere and Loren Mason-Gere; her sisters, Jenelle Wilder, of Vacaville, Calif.; and Carolyn Forsell, of Ventura, Calif. She was preceeded in death by by her daughter Bonnie Gere in 1979.



Her family would like to thank Debbie Lester of Edgewood Home Care for her kind and loving care during her final days.
