WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Oregon State sophomore catcher Ryan Ortiz has been named the Pacific-10 Conference's player of the week.

Ortiz started all three games for the Beavers as they won two games in a series against No. 16 Pepperdine last weekend. He batted .462, with six hits in 13 at-bats, including a grand slam and two doubles in the first game of the series. He posted nine RBIs, including seven in the first game, and doubled three times.

Ortiz's hitting prowess extended his hit streak to seven games, which became eight after Oregon State's 15-7 victory at BYU on Monday. During the streak, Ortiz is batting .389 with three home runs, four doubles, nine runs, 22 RBIs and three walks.

In 17 games, the San Diego native has started 13 of them and is batting .333 with 18 hits. He has five doubles and three homers on the season, with 24 RBIs.
