Barbara Newcomb



Barbara passed away at her Ashland home on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was 65.



Barbara was born in Los Angelas, Calif., to Eugene and Altha LeRoy on September 8, 1942. She moved to Rogue River at the age of five and graduated from Rogue River High School in 1960. In 1963, during her sophmore year at Southern Oregon College, she met her husband, Paul Newcomb, and married a year later September of 1964.



Barbara and Paul raised their two sons in Ashland. Over her 20-year career at Ashland High School as an attendance secretary, she created continuing friendships with many students, faculty, and members of Ashland's community. She attended Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing with the Siskiyou Singers, assisting the coach of the Ashland High girls' golf team, and volunteering her time at her church. In addition to her involvement with the community, Barbara was frequently seen skiing at Mt. Ashland, playing tennis, and camping with her family and friends. She was a commpassionate caregiver to her ailing mother and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. She will be remembered by the many people whose lives she touched for her cheerful and generous nature.



Barbara is survived by her husband, Paul, of Ashland; sons, Stephen of Eugene and Michael of Oakland, Calif.; brothers, O. Jeffery LeRoy of Klamath Falls, James Leroy of Medford, Jack LeRoy of Portland; and grandchildren, Maxfield and Chloe Poizat-Newcomb of Eugene.



A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church on Saturday, March 29, 2008, in Ashland at 12:00 p.m. preceded by a Rosary at 11:00 a.m.
