North Medford High School's Sarah Louie was crowned the Pear Blossom queen Saturday night.

Louie beat out seven other area high school seniors to become the 18th Senior Royalty Scholarship Pageant winner.

The seniors were judged on school leadership skills, academic achievement, community involvement, an interview with the judges, writing and presentation of an essay, and answering impromptu questions on stage.

Each princess automatically earns a $500 college scholarship. The winner becomes queen, reigns over the Pear Blossom Parade on April 12, and receives a $2,000 college scholarship. The queen's scholarship is sponsored by Kogap Enterprises, Inc.

In the past 17 years, the Pear Blossom Festival Association has given more than $95,000 in scholarships to more than 150 high school girls in the community.
