KLAMATH FALLS — J.T. Compher carded a school-record, 4-under-par 68 to earn medalist honors and guide Phoenix to a Skyline Conference Tournament triumph at Running Y Golf Course Monday.

Compher, who improved as the day progressed, led Phoenix to its third Skyline victory in as many tries, its fourth overall win and a season-best team score of 302.

On the front nine, Compher registered a 1-under 35 before notching an eagle and two birdies en route to a 3-under 33 on the back side. He had a bogey on the back as well.

"He's been playing solid all year," said Phoenix golf coach Kyle Walker. "He was bound to get one of these kinds of rounds, where the putts go in and he gets under par. A lot of things went right for him today."

Aside from Compher's accomplishments, Phoenix accounted for four of the five lowest rounds of the field.

Sam Howell (77) and Daniel Engle (78) placed third and fourth, respectively, while Michael Stanfield added a 79 to tie for fifth.

"We're trying to just get ourselves ready for districts and state," said Walker, whose team won the Class 4A state title last year. "I think we have the capability to do that if we have everyone playing their best golf.

"Our day was a good step in that direction because it was our best score of the year, but we've got some more work to do."

Henley's Tyler Dearing had the second-best score with a 4-over 76. Henley placed second with a team score of 325.

Last Thursday, Phoenix won by 36 strokes in a two-day Skyline Conference Tournament at Sand Pines Golf Links and Salishan Golf Resort.

Compher claimed medalist honors after completing the best round of the day at Salishan in Day 2 — a 1-over 71. In the opening round at Sand Pines, he shot an 11-over 83.
