A pair of events in Ashland today attempts to stimulate community conversation about the town’s library levy.

The city’s Citizen’s Library Advisory Council will have representatives talking about the levy at the library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., from noon to 5 p.m. today. Ashland’s City Council discusses the levy at its meeting at 7 tonight in council chambers at the Ashland Civic Center, 1175 E. Main St. The meeting is open to the public.

The events are in advance of a decision by the council on whether to continue Ashland’s local option levy, which allows the Ashland library to be open extra hours. It allows the city to raise taxes by as much as 58 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation to cover the costs.
