The Siskiyou Institute will kick off its 2008 spring concert season with an evening of piano music featuring Alexander Tutunov and his students at Southern Oregon University at 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at The Old Siskiyou Barn, Ashland.

The Siskiyou Institute will kick off its 2008 spring concert season with an evening of piano music featuring Alexander Tutunov and his students at Southern Oregon University at 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at The Old Siskiyou Barn, Ashland.

Performing in the recital will be Kristen McCaffrey, Kimberley Levy, David Brown, Daniel Swayze, Kimberley Wood, Elizabeth Moss and Joseph Yungen. The program will include the music of Debussy, Rachmaninoff, Liszt, Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Ravel and Scriabin.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Chinese-American International Piano Institute, founded by Tutunov. The iInstitute gathers together outstanding young pianists from China, North America and other nations, and some of the most recognized, respected piano professors from the United States and China. This annual event takes place at the Sichuan Conservatory in Chengdu, China.

Tickets for the recital are $20 and $15 for students.

Tutunov will offer a Piano Technique Master Class at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at The Old Siskiyou Barn, Ashland. The class is open to piano students and teachers of all styles.

Tutunov will address a broad spectrum of performance-related problems, including tips on technical development without injuries, tone production on the piano, efficient practice, healthy habits and other topics of interest.

Tickets for the class are $10 for the general public and free to students and teachers. Donations are appreciated.
