CORVALLIS —— Preston Guilmet pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters as No. 23 Arizona blanked Oregon State 7-0 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game Pacific-10 Conference baseball series at Goss Stadium.

CORVALLIS —— Preston Guilmet pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out 10 batters as No. 23 Arizona blanked Oregon State 7-0 on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game Pacific-10 Conference baseball series at Goss Stadium.

Bryce Ortega paced Arizona by going 2-for-4 in the game with two RBIs.

Arizona (28-11, 7-6 Pac-10) got on the board in the first inning with a two run home run by Brad Glenn. The Wildcats added another run in the second an a homer by Jon Gaston.

Glenn went 1-for-5 on the day with two RBIs. Gaston was 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.

The Wildcats added three more runs in the eighth and one more in the top of the ninth courtesy of a home run by C.J. Ziegler off Grbavac. The right-hander pitched one inning and gave up one hit and one run and struck out a batter.

Chris Hopkins had three of the Beavers' five hits, including singles in the third and sixth innings and a double down the line in the eighth. It marked his eighth multiple-hit game of the season and third with three hits.

Drew George and Ryan Ortiz also had hits for OSU (18-14, 6-7 Pac-10).

OSU Mike Stutes (2-5) had his longest outing of the season, going eight innings on a season-high 152 pitches. Stutes gave up six runs on six hits, with two coming from home runs. He struck a season-high 10 batters.

The teams combined for 21 strikeouts, with Mark Grbavac getting one in the ninth to cap OSU's night.

Oregon State continues tomorrow against Arizona with a first pitch time of 2:06 p.m. PST. The game will be nationally televised on FSN.
