Lewis Sebrell came alive at the plate for Ashland in a key Southern Sky Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday.

The Ashland senior catcher collected five hits on the day, including the game-winner in the second game, as the No. 6-ranked Grizzlies defeated Crater, 8-2 and 4-3, at North Mountain Park in Ashland.

"The kids get up when we play Crater," Ashland coach Don Senestraro said. "Every time we play Crater, we know it's going to be a battle."

The twin victory moves Ashland (17-2, 10-0 SSC) four games ahead of the Comets (14-8, 8-4 SSC) in the SSC standings with six games to play.

Sebrell capped a spectacular day at the plate with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning of the second game that scored Hayden Miller with the winning run. Miller opened the frame with a single

Sebrell went 5-for-7 with four RBIs in the doubleheader.

"(Sebrell) has been swinging a little better lately," Senestraro said. "He waited on his pitch to hit and had a lot of success. And he caught 14 innings of great baseball."

Ashland leading hitter Max Gordon also had a productive day at the plate. Gordon went 3-for-3 in the nightcap to go with two hits and three RBIs in the opener.

"(Gordon) is on fire right now," said Senestraro of the senior center fielder, who is batting .480. "He's seeing the ball real well."

In Game 1, Ashland starter Charlie Sebrell gave up two first-inning runs then blanked the Comets over the next 51/3 innings. Sam Gaviglio relieved Charlie Sebrell with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh and forced Kos Ray to hit into a double play to end the game.

Ashland erased a 2-1 deficit with a four-run rally in the second inning. The Grizzlies' big hits were a double by Luke Jannusch to open the inning, a two-run double from Max Gordon and RBI singles from Lewis Sebrell and Owen Baldrica.

"We hit the ball pretty well today," said Senestraro. "Our pitchers didn't have too many strikeouts today but we played errorless ball and that was key."
