Nov. 8, 1912-May 17, 2008

Anita C. Nicholson, 95, passed away in Klamath Falls, Ore., on Saturday, May 17, 2008.

Anita was born November 8, 1912, in Kingsland, Ark., to Robert and Emma Kight, the sixth child of seven (all of which preceded her in death). In the spring of 1931, Anita left her family home and traveled to Oregon to visit her sister and brother-in-law and decided to stay. Her first job was at the Golden Rule dry goods store located on the corner of 8th and Main St., in Klamath Falls. She later worked as a waitress in the restaurant of the Fort Klamath Hotel. There she met her future husband, Stewart Nicholson. They were married in March of 1933. The couple was engaged in the cattle business with ranches in Fort Klamath and Corning, Calif. After Stewart's passing in 1970, Anita continued to live on the ranch until 2004 when she moved to Klamath Falls. In 2000, Anita sold the ranch to her son and grandson. Anita was active in her church and the civic improvement club in Fort Klamath. She belonged to the Klamath County Cow Belles, Daughters of the Nile, as well as other organizations. She played golf, bowled and enjoyed playing bridge. She loved her flowers and always had an attractive display around her home in the summer. She enjoyed cooking, often times for ranch workers as well as family. Anita liked to travel, spending several winter seasons with her daughter in Hawaii, as well as trips to Mexico, Canada and Europe.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Bethea and her husband, Robert Stewart, of Medford, Ore., son, Bill Nicolson, of Fort Klamath, Ore., granddaughters and spouses, Lisa and Gary Zimmerman, of Bend, Ore., Julie and Samuel King, of Coos Bay, Ore., grandsons and spouses, Larry and Karen Nicholson, of Medford, Brad and Terry Nicholson, of Sisters, Ore., Jeff and Mary Nicholson, of Davis, Calif., Gary Nicholson, of Fort Klamath, and William "Skip" Bethea, of Hilo, Hawaii.
