Police have arrested a man living at a motel on South Central Avenue in Medford for selling crack cocaine.

The Jackson County Narcotics Enforcement Team served a search warrant Monday at the Budget Inn, where Michael Patrick Bennett, 50, was living. They discovered small amounts of crack cocaine, marijuana and packaging materials and digital scales used in drug dealing, police said.

The warrant was served after undercover JACNET officers previously bought crack cocaine from Bennett. Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters declined to comment on whether Bennett was selling the drugs out of the motel.

"We also found baking soda in the room," Winters said. "They sometimes cut cocaine with it to make crack."

Bennett was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of possession of cocaine, delivery of cocaine, manufacture of cocaine, possession of marijuana and delivery of marijuana. He was later released after posting bail.

"We usually don't see a lot of crack cocaine in Jackson County," Winters said. "But lately we've started to a slight increase in it here lately."
