Comedian Martin Short, Tony- and Emmy-award winner Mandy Patinkin and five touring musicals will be among productions at Medford's Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater this coming season.

12:19 p.m. update: Craterian Performances announced this afternoon that the performance date for "Chicago" will be Sept. 3 rather than in November as originally scheduled.


Comedian Martin Short, Tony- and Emmy-award winner Mandy Patinkin and five touring musicals will be among productions at Medford's Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater this coming season.

The nonprofit Craterian Performances announced details of the 2008-2009 season, its 12th, today.

Canadian-born funnyman Short, whose credentials include "Second City Television," "Saturday Night Live" and movie roles, opens the new season Sept. 17. Tickets will be $66-$78.

Patinkin, known for his roles as Che, the fiery revolutionary in "Evita," Dr. Geiger of TV's "Chicago Hope" and Inigo Montoya, the revenge-obsessed swordsman from "The Princess Bride," visits the Craterian on Feb. 22, 2009.

Touring musicals stopping at the Craterian include "Oliver!" on Sept. 22 ($42-$60); Tony-winning "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on Oct. 30 ($42-$60); "Chicago" on Nov. 25; "Movin' Out," the "rock ballet" featuring Billy Joel songs and Twyla Tharp choreography, on Jan. 15, 2009 ($45-$63); and "Annie" in a 30th anniversary production on Jan. 26, 2009 ($47-$65).

Other acts include the 25th anniversary tour of "Nunsense" ($34-$53), starring Sally Struthers, and musical acts ranging from bluegrass to brass to jazz to soul.

Returning holiday events include the GingerBread Jubilee in November and "Christmas with the Trail Band" shows of holiday music.
