The average price of a gallon of gas in the Medford-Ashland area, the most expensive in the state, rose to $4.01 today, AAA has reported.

And the statewide average and averages for the other major markets in Oregon are only pennies less.

The average in Eugene-Springfield rose to $3.98 today, while the Portland area's average was $3.95. The Medford-Ashland average was up from $3.47 a year ago and $3.71 last month.

AAA Oregon Public Affairs Director Marie Dodds says there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.

But Americans do seem to be cutting back on the number of miles they drive.

The organization says a Federal Highway Administration report this week shows Americans drove 11 billion fewer miles in March this year than in March 2007.
