Gladys Florence Messal Cox



Gladys Florence Messal Cox, 86, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008, at her home in Medford, Ore., where she lived with her daughter, Linda.



Gladys was born to Wallace and Lucile (Humphrey) Seifert, on August 7, 1921, in Leavenworth, Kansas. She married Robert Stuart on October 8, 1939; Lawerence Messal, on March 9, 1948; and Ernest Cox, on October 7, 1967. Her husbands preceded her in death. In 1950, she resided in Eagle Point, Ore., and then moved to Medford in 1957. She raised three children and was an insurance agent for S.C. Jones and Sons in Medford and Ashland, Ore., until 1986. In retirement, she enjoyed many hobbies including fishing, camping, growing orchids, flower and vegetable gardening, needlepoint, sewing, cake decorating, candy making, crafts of all kinds, and loved to watch softball and TV baseball. Many who knew her treasure having received her custom made greeting cards. Gladys was co-founder of Fasturn Junction Community Sew and a member of the American Sewing Guild. She was a member of Good Sam Club and a member of First United Methodist Church. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Reames Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Royal Matron of Amaranth, and belonged to many other organizations, both fraternal and volunteer. She was always there to lend a helping hand and was most happy when surrounded by and enjoying her family and friends.



She is survived by a son, Jerry (Glenna) Stuart, of Medford; daughters, Judy Klinzing, of Central Point, Ore., Linda Messal, of Medford; sister, Mildred (Lee) Morgan, of Silverdale, Wash.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.



Her step-daughter, Marcene Sandell, preceded her in death.



Gladys will be missed by those who knew her loving, caring spirit and her love of life most of all.



Visitation will be Sunday, June 1, 2008, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Conger-Morris Chapel, 715 West Main Street, Medford. 772-7111.



The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church, 607 West Main Street, Medford, with Reverend Caren Caldwell officiating.



A private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent Masonic Eastern Star Retirement Home Endowment Fund, 2150 Masonic Way, Forest Grove, OR 97116, or to The First United Methodist Church.
