David Jack Crist

1930 - 2008

Our beloved father, husband, and grandpa passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of June 19, 2008 after a four-year fight against bone cancer. Dad was born in Durand, Wis., to Lafe and Ethel Crist. He was the tenth of 12 children. Dad worked on the family farm until he was 18 and then enlisted in the Navy on November 11, 1948. He served in the Navy for 20 years, serving on the USS Kearsarge, the USS Hancock, and the USS Enterprise. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1968. During his service he met and married Dorothy Ann Lee in Tillamook, Ore., on September 21, 1955. They traveled to several naval bases, having five children along the way, finally settling down in the Rogue Valley in 1965. He worked for Boise Cascade until his retirement in 1995. His passions in life were fishing, bowling and family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Catherine; and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy; his brothers, Wayne, Bob and Lafe Crist; his four children, Stephanie (Leon), April, Rex (Mary) and Ray (Kristina); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. We will miss you so much.
