Mary Joan Doland Whitford, 81, of Central Point, Ore., passed away Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Alderwood Assisted Living. There will be no funeral or memorial services and in lieu of flowers her wish was for a donation to be made to a favorite charity. Mary was laid to rest at Siskiyou Memorial Park.



Mary was born in London, England on January 22, 1927 to Douglas Doland and Doris Osment. On March 28, 1947 she obtained a Nursing Degree in England. From 1952 until 1964 Mary was an airline stewardess with Quantas Airlines. During that time Mary became an Australian citizen and continued to fly around the world making many lasting friendships. Mary migrated to the U.S. and on April 11, 1975 became a U.S. Citizen. In 1976 she married Curtis B. Whitford and settled in Los Angeles, where she continued her nursing career. In March 1990, after the loss of her husband, Mary retired and moved to Medford, Ore. Mary volunteered at Rogue Valley Medical Center as a "Pink Person" for several years; she enjoyed church, singing in the church choir, gardening, classical music, traveling and her beloved pets.



Mary is survived by her brother, Derek Doland of Devon, England; her cousin, Rita Sharpe of Middlesex, England; and special friend, Laura Dietz of Central Point.
