Two people died Sunday in a head-on collision on Highway 199 at Eight Dollar Mountain Road in Cave Junction, according to Oregon State Police.

Emergency responders were called to the accident scene just before 7 p.m. after a green Mitsubishi traveling south on the highway crossed the center line and struck a white Kia head-on, said OSP Sgt. Dan Swift.

The drivers of both vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not release their names Sunday night.

Two passengers in the Kia were injured. One was transported by helicopter to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford and was in critical condition late Sunday, Swift said. The other passenger was delivered by ambulance to Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass and was in serious condition late Sunday, he said.

OSP's collision-reconstruction team was at the scene investigating late Sunday, while other officers attempted to notify next of kin.

No other details were available at press time.
