Students who have played woodwind, string, percussion or brass instruments for at least a year are eligible to attend a middle-school band camp in Medford in July and August.

Students will practice and perform with the senior musicians of the New Horizons Band. Parents are invited to get out their own instruments and join their kids.

The camp is set from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays July 8-Aug. 21 at the Santo Community Center, 701 N. Columbus Ave. Cost is $50 per student.

Ivan Olinghouse, a recent graduate of the University of Oregon music program and member of Rogue Valley performing groups, will direct the combined band. Heather Tamiyama, an SOU music student, will assist. A concert will be held Aug. 23.

Scholarships are available for students with financial need. To register or for more information, contact Olinghouse at 301-4011 or ivanolinghouse@yahoo.com or Grete Angelone at 664-3050 or grett3050@charter.net.
