William George Underwood, 83, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. His daughter, Linda McFadden was with him.
Bill was born May 17, 1924 in Ogden, Utah, the youngest of five siblings. He moved to Medford, Ore., in the late '20s. After graduating from Medford High, he enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 2529th AAF Base Unit until 1945. He was stationed in Mission, Texas at Moore Field. Upon his return to the Rogue Valley, Bill married Donna Elizabeth Underwood in 1947. Bill worked as an electrician for Trowbridge and Flynn. After several years in Medford and Merlin, the Underwoods relocated to Payson, Ariz., in 1986 where they enjoyed new adventures and friends before returning to the Rogue Valley in 2002.
In her earlier years, Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always enjoyed flying and was passionate about his 4-legged children (dogs). He was known and will be remembered for his sense of humor and "Billisms."
Bill is survived by his three children, Laurie Anne Dalton, Tim Underwood and Linda McFadden; son-in-law, Roger McFadden; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Prince, Jennifer Dater, Grant Ryder and Joseph Ryder; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea Woods, Jarrett Prince, Colton Ryder, Samuel William Dater, Luke Ryder, and Madison Donna Dater. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Donna and a son, Michael William Underwood. He is interned at the Eagle Point National Cemetery with his beloved wife.
