GRANTS PASS — Hannibal Lector proved that last year's record-breaking performance at Grants Pass Downs was no fluke on Saturday.

GRANTS PASS — Hannibal Lector proved that last year's record-breaking performance at Grants Pass Downs was no fluke on Saturday.

With jockey Freddie Ibarra in control, the six-year-old quarter timed 17.40 seconds in the featured 350-yard John Deere Bonus Challenge, matching its own record set June 24 of last year.

Hannibal Lector broke Mr. Doubtfire's 12-year-old track record of 17.52 for the 350 yards. It wasn't challenged from the gate on Saturday, escaping runner-up Scootin Quick by 21/2 lengths.

Also repeating was appaloosa PJ's Houdini in the Appaloosa and Paint Stakes. With the GP Down's leading jockey Troy Stillwell at the helm, the appaloosa used inside post position to claim the 600-yard event in 31.0 for the second consecutive year.

For Stillwell, it was the second-straight victory from the saddle. He also won the sixth race of the day atop A Little Frogy in the 51/2 furlong sixth race in 1:05.8.

With the wins, Stillwell notched his ninth win of the year, pulling away from last year's leading jockey Nikeela Black, whom he was tied with at seventh entering the day.

Also winning two races apiece were jockeys Ruben Camacho and Ty Dangerfield.

Camacho raced Surelybell in to the finish line 21/2 lengths ahead of Bagofmarbles in the first race, then claimed the last event of the day atop Annie The Cop.

Dangerfield breezed atop Face of Fortune, winning by 11 lengths in the 61/2 furlong third race.

In the ninth race, Dangerfield saddled Whenthewindblows, a thoroughbred trained by Karen Haverty, to edge another Haverty-trained horse, Tioga Junction, by a head's length.

With Faces Of Fortune winning the third race, Haverty totaled two more wins on the afternoon, giving her eight on the season. Trainer Bob Beckner was also credited with two victories.

Trisha Bosisto, an apprentice jockey who earned her jockey's license just two weeks ago, won the first race of her career with Ask Radar in the fourth race.

Racing resumes this afternoon at 12:30. All fans will receive a coupon for Dutch Bros coffee as they exit the races.
