Changes at intersections along Highway 62 near Costco are due to take a step forward today when Medford's City Council inks an agreement for them with the state Department of Transportation.

The meeting begins at noon in third-floor council chambers at City Hall, 411 W. Eighth St. It's open to the public. The council also meets at 7 p.m. in council chambers.

The city this year announced a $10.4 million project that will realign Crater Lake Avenue at Coker Butte Road and Owen Drive, as well as connecting two portions of Owen Drive.

The project also will add two new traffic signals along the highway — one at Coker Butte and one at Owen — and remove the signal in front of Costco at Cardinal Avenue.

After the traffic signal on Highway 62 at Cardinal Avenue is removed, northbound drivers on Highway 62 will be able to turn left into the Wal-Mart and Costco parking lot at the new Owen Drive intersection. A median barrier will be put in on Highway 62 at Cardinal, allowing for right-in and right-out access only there.

The Statewide Transportation Improvement Project program will contribute $9.4 million and the city $1 million.
