Gold Hill leaders meet in a closed session today, reportedly to consider rehiring their recently terminated public works director.

The 3 p.m. City Council executive session takes place at City Hall, 420 Sixth Ave. The council can meet in sessions closed to the public to consult with attorneys about current or potential litigation, as well as for other reasons.

The council fired longtime Public Works Director Royal Gasso in July following a May 16 arrest near Grants Pass for possession of methadone and heroin and driving under the influence of intoxicants. He was asked to resign in June after a 30-day unpaid leave, but he refused.

City Council members declined to discuss specifics about today's meeting, although one said the council would discuss rehiring Gasso.
