Delegates converge on Denver today for the beginning of the Democratic National Convention, and Rogue Valley residents are among the crowd.

County Commissioner Dave Gilmour, local Democratic chairwoman Paulie Brading and local Barack Obama campaign leader Matt Sutton will represent this area at the convention. Sharon Marler, another party activist, was chosen as an alternate delegate. Altogether, Oregon is sending 65 delegates to the convention.

Brading is scheduled to write a convention diary during the event that will appear at www.mailtribune.com/2008campaign.

Donna Cain, a delegate to the Republican National Convention that starts on Labor Day, also is scheduled to write for the newspaper.
