Melvin Freeman Wilkins

Melvin Freeman Wilkins passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2008, at his home in Ruch, Ore., with his family at his side.

Born and raised in the Napa Valley, Calif., he retired after 34 years at Mare Island Naval Shipyard and moved to Oregon in 1982. He spent his retirement years enjoying the outdoors and his beloved Airedale terriers.

He served proudly in the U. S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific.

A long-standing member of American Legion Post 199 in St. Helena, Calif., he is survived by his wife, Telvina; his three children, Sharon Westmoreland, of Pasadena, Calif., Marsha Barfield, of Grants Pass, Ore., and Dan Wilkins, of Eagle Point, Ore.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Eleanor Bartlett, of Napa, Calif., and Arlene Guthrie, of Novato, Calif. He was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria.

A private family service will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
