Verl Michael

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, Verl Michael passed away at home with family at her side. Verl was born in Prague, Okla., on Oct. 17, 1912, as the daughter of William Harrison Kyker and Vivian Waytt Kyker. She graduated from school in the Prague, Okla., area, and became a school teacher in Seminole, Okla.

In June of 1936, Verl, her five brothers, Clifford, Leo, Roy, William and Wayne, with their mother, Vivian, all relocated to Medford, Ore. Verl stayed in the Medford area, and helped her mother manage the neighborhood market, the Washington Grocery, on Peach Street, while all of her brothers were away in the military service during World War II. In 1942, she met and married Holly Michael. They had one daughter, Linda Michael, and they relocated to the Newberg, Ore., area in the late 1960s while Linda attended college. Both Holly and Linda passed while in the Newberg area, and Verl moved back to Medford in 2007. Verl has always been active in church activities everywhere she has lived. Her interests focused around family, especially her six great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members include granddaughters, Shawna and Rachelle Rock; nephews, Richard and Denise Kyker, David and Sandy Kyker, and Bill Kyker; niece, Sherry and Mike McCall; Judy and John Cain, Kahty Blitz, Betty and Dennis Oitner, Lamoia Meyer, and numerous family and friends.

We would like to give a special Thank You to Lillian and Steve Shappard, of Central Point, Ore., and to Providence Hospice Care for the fine care they all provided in the last few months of Verl's life. Verl was a teacher, always a teacher, and for those that have been fortunate enough to have known her, she will be greatly missed. After a private memorial, Verl was laid to rest with her mother and five brothers at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford, Ore.
