COASTWIDE - Deep-water halibut fishing is closed for the season. The bottomfish aggregate limit remains six fish a day, and that is luring more jiggers after blue and black rockfish. Catches are improving with the effort.

Rockfish anglers must remain within the 20-fathom curve. Lingcod anglers also must remain within the 20-fathom curve, but anglers targeting flatfish, tuna and salmon are unaffected by the change.

All salmon fishing off the Oregon Coast remains closed right now.

The ocean is closed to Dungeness crab fishing.

BROOKINGS - The ocean will be a bit surly this weekend thanks to a weak cold front that will bring 10-25 knot winds and varying waves. Early mornings should still be good for bottomfish. Tuna fishing likely is over, with the last boat headed Wednesday as far as 70 miles offshore.

The near-shore bubble fishery for chinook salmon opens Wednesday and runs through Oct. 4, with a one chinook daily limit and a 24-inch minimum. Fishing should be good off the buoy and off Sporthaven Beach. Troll slowly and right off the bottom.

NEWPORT - Tuna anglers are finding good pods of fish 30-40 miles west of Newport, but anglers are finding it difficult to get them to bite. Lots of feed in the water has hampered catch rates this past week.

Halibut anglers hammered the fish during last weekend's all-depth fishery, so that's done for the season. Halibut fishers must stay within the 40-fathom line and the limit remains one per day.

CLATSOP - Recreational mussel harvesting from Arcadia Beach in Clatsop County to the mouth of the Columbia River is closed as a conservation measure and not from PSP toxins. The closure includes mussels on the beaches, rocks, jetties, and at the entrance to bays in this section of the Oregon Coast. Coastal scallops are not affected by this closure when only the adductor muscle is eaten.
