A truck driver killed on the Siskiyou Summit this afternoon was stopped at the shoulder of Interstate 5 where truckers often check their brakes before beginning the descent into the Rogue Valley.

The victim, whose name hasn't been released yet, was outside his vehicle when a semi hauling bottled water swerved into him and his truck, Oregon State Police Sgt. Jeff Proulx said. The driver of the semi that hit him hasn't been publicly identified yet, either.

One northbound lane of the freeway remains closed, with water bottles strewn across it, but traffic is flowing smoothly over the summit. Proulx said investigators will be on the mountain into the evening reconstructing what happened in the fatal crash.
