Danielle Smith had 13 kills, Chelsea Passante 10 kills and a trio of Phoenix setters — Marie Kempf, Brooke Cythers and Sarah Buell — caught fire the final two games to lead the way.

Kempf and Cythers had 10 assists and two aces each, and Buell had nine assists and an ace.

"Basically, we have a habit of playing to our opponents," said coach Uta Mageo after the Pirates improved to 2-5 overall, 1-1 in league. "I felt we did not play up to our potential and kept them in the game a little bit and made a lot of unforced errors."

Passante added four blocks and an ace, and Smith had two blocks and two aces. Tessa Lockett contributed seven kills, five aces and two blocks.

For the Cougars (2-6, 0-2 Skyline), Alex Miller had 25 digs, Kayla Johnson 15 kills, Tonya Tyler three blocks and Brittany Lloyd had a fine match as the setter.

"We just came out so strong and really played well," said coach Cathy Pope. "I think what got us was little errors, like tipping the net, serving smartly, hitting and just our communication. We have a young group of girls, and it'll just take playing more together. We'll definitely be able to compete in league from what we saw tonight."

HENLEY 3, HIDDEN VALLEY 2 — At Klamath Falls, Henley handed Hidden Valley its first loss, 22-25, 17-25, 25-11, 25-19, 15-7.

Autumn Wedan had 24 kills for the Hornets (15-1, 2-0 Skyline). Lindsay Shannon was 20 of 20 serving with four aces , and Stephanie Matheson was 12 of 12 with three aces.

For Hidden Valley (11-1, 0-1 Skyline), Haley Fikso had nine kills, 12 blocks and three aces; Joelle Swanson and Lacey Wood had seven kills each and Sabrina Peckham 36 digs.

Southwest Conference

NORTH MEDFORD 3, GRANTS PASS 0 — At Grants Pass, a strong defensive performance and good ball control allowed North Medford to win, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16.

McKenzie Smith and Abby Mann led the way with six digs for North, which had seven girls with at least four digs. Smith also added 15 assists for the Tornado (7-6, 2-1 SWC).

Jaci Abeloe led North with 12 kills, and Andrea Egge contributed seven.

For Grants Pass, Karissa Bennett had six kills, and Monica Jordan had 21 assists.

SOUTH EUGENE 3, SOUTH MEDFORD 0 — South Medford dropped to 0-3 in SWC play with the 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 home loss.

Crystal Hooper had seven kills and Ashley Denn six kills for the Panthers (1-4 overall). Chelsee Kessler chipped in nine digs.

SHELDON 3, ROSEBURG 0 — At Sheldon, Roseburg played hard but could not overcome 20 hitting errors to lose 16-25, 15-25, 19-25.

Southern Sky Conference

ASHLAND 3, EAGLE POINT 0 — At Ashland, Asia Kane and Taylor Hartrick led Ashland's domination at the net, combining for 18 kills as the Grizzlies (10-8, 2-0 SSC) cruised to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-15 sweep.

Juniors Nikki Small (seven kills) and Hayley Ross (six kills, two blocks) also made key contributions, while setter Kiely Pinder had 26 assists. Kane had 11 kills and Hartrick seven kills and four blocks.

Eagle Point (2-4, 0-1) got five kills from Kristin Wyatt and 20 digs from McKensie Re.

MAZAMA 3, KLAMATH UNION 0 — At Klamath Falls, Mazama rallied from a 22-11 deficit to win the first game, then cruised to a 27-25, 25-17, 25-19 SSC sweep.

Senior Jennifer Saltenberger and sophomore Kelsea MacPhee had seven kills apiece for the Vikings (1-1 SSC), and Saltenberger also had seven blocks.

Sunset League

CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, MYRTLE POINT 0 — Junior setter Breanna Holtz led unbeaten Cascade Christian to the Sunset home win, 25-7, 25-9, 25-10.

Holtz had 26 assists, and junior Becca Sellers added 12 kills. Emily Sellers notched seven blocks and four kills.

Senior libero Hannah Brewster chipped in 11 digs for the Challengers (6-0, 6-0 Sunset).

COQUILLE 3, ROGUE RIVER 0 — At Coquille, Coquille triumphed 25-11, 26-24, 25-23.

Southern Cascade League

ST. MARY'S 3, LOST RIVER 1 — At Merrill, St. Mary's Kate Traister was 28 of 28 serving in the Crusaders' 25-17, 25-22, 17-25, 25-17 victory.

Traister also had 26 digs and six aces for the Crusaders (6-3, 4-1 SCL) and, along with Domonique Valdez, led a Game-2 rally from an 18-10 deficit.

Kylee Adderson had 16 kills and five aces, Jordan Jackson 32 assists and Samantha Bayer was 13-for-14 serving with 19 digs.
