BUTTE FALLS — Even on a day when the offense didn't click for Butte Falls, it clicked.

The Loggers, who lacked the crispness of earlier games — they had scored at least 60 points in each Mountain Valley League contest — nevertheless ran for a season-high 531 yards and pummeled Gilchrist 52-6 Friday.

Coach Randy Stephenson, noting flaws in his team's execution, attributed the gaudy rushing numbers to the hard running and speed of his skill players, who repeatedly broke into the open field.

Josh Dyck galloped for 229 yards on 15 carries, scoring on runs of 80, 65 and 5 yards. Harley Casillas had 178 yards on 20 totes, scoring from 34 and 15 yards. Chase Ellis carried three times for 139 yards and tallies of 68 and 18 yards.

"Harley and Josh were running the ball harder than they have in the past," said Stephenson, whose team improved to 4-1 overall, 4-0 in league. "A lot of those long runs are just our backs improvising on plays and getting out in the open and going. Harley and Josh bounce outside real well, and Chase also. Once they get around the end, they're hard to catch because all three are fast."

Codey Myers supplemented the ground attack with 60 yards passing. He completed 4 of 6 passes, including an 8-yard touchdown to Josh McGonagle. Myers was intercepted once.

The defense was paced by Josh Sutfin. Three times the Grizzlies had first down inside the Butte Falls' 10-yard line and were denied points.

The Loggers have allowed only 32 points in four league games. Twice they've shut out their foes.
