David Benton Winningham

David B. Winningham, 95, Applegate Valley logger and rancher, passed away peacefully at his home on Oct. 20, 2008. David was born July 3, 1913, in Trail, Ore., to John Jackson and Mary Stella Winningham. On Dec. 30, 1939, he married Evelyn Julianne Johnson in Klamath Falls, Ore. She preceded him in death in 1973. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; and two grandsons, Davy and John.

He is survived by one sister, Grace Gwin of Jacksonville, Ore.; sons, John (Joyce) Winningham and Jerry (Karen) Winningham, also of Jacksonville; a daughter, Dianne (John) Norris, of Central Point, Ore.; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Conger-Morris Chapel in Medford, at — p.m. Internment will be in Logtown Cemetery, Jacksonville.

David considered himself a logger first and a rancher second. He was a member of the Small Woodland Association and the Oregon Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed hunting, playing horseshoes, pinochle and cribbage.

His slow talk and quick wit will be greatly missed.
