A Gold Hill man died when he drove his motorcycle off Tresham Road and into a ditch near Highway 234 Saturday evening.

Troy M. Jackson, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, Oregon State Police Sgt. Mark Byrd said in a news release.

An investigation into the crash continues. Police have talked to another rider who was traveling with Jackson, interviewed other witnesses and had a reconstructionist examine details at the site, Byrd said.

Jackson, who was wearing a helmet, was driving his 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle east on Tresham at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday when the bike left that road, traveled through a ditch, crossed onto Highway 234 near milepost 9 and came to a rest in another ditch. He was thrown from the motorcycle.

Initial reports indicated a second motorcycle had left the scene before its rider talked with officers, but investigators now have found and talked with that person, Byrd said. They are still working out exactly what caused Jackson to lose control and veer off the road. A report likely won't be complete for a week or more, Byrd said.
