Patricia Jane Erwin

On Aug. 24, 1930, in Leon, Kan., God blessed Frank and Hazel Burley with their fourth precious daughter, Patricia Jane. As "Patty" grew, she always loved to help people. Upon graduation from high school, she headed West to join her older sister, Melba, in California. Her love for adventure and travel never waned. It was her first West Coast job in Long Beach that she met her soon-to-be husband, Jay Erwin. They were married Dec. 18, 1949.

As the years passed, they settled into a young neighborhood in developing Southern California. There, Pat and Jay had two children, Cynthia Jane and Kirk Jay. Pat was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend. She was always quick to lend a helping hand and volunteering, especially with things involving her family.

In August of 1982, the call of grandbabies was so strong that the Erwins left Long Beach to relocate in Shady Cove, Ore. Pat was the grammas of all grammas. The impact of her Christian life and influence is a beautiful and lasting legacy.

Pat had such a sweet and gentle way of seeing the needs of the people around her and doing something about it. She had many close friends. Her love of God gave Pat's friendships an eternal dimension that enabled her to understand God's sovereignty in all of life's situations. Her laughter, her prayers, festive foods, gentle wisdom, and her sweet spirit will always linger in our hearts. Patricia Jane Erwin truly lived Christ's words, "This is my Commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you." She has left God's footprints on all our hearts.

On Oct. 25, 2008, she joined her parents and sisters, Dorothy, Melba, and Elaine in heaven. She is survived by her youngest sister, Charlene; husband of 58 years, Jay; son, Kirk; daughter, Cyndi, and husband, Michael Harrington; grandchildren, Trea and Travis Connick and Dustin and Kelly Harrington. There will be a service for Patty at 2 p.m., Oct. 30, 2008, at Trail Christian Fellowship.
