The entire Oregon Coast remains closed to the recreational harvest of mussels because of elevated levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning toxins, also known as PSP. The closure includes mussels on the beaches, rocks, jetties and at the entrance to bays. In addition, only the adductor muscle of scallops are safe to eat, and people should not eat whole scallops taken in the recreational fishery.

BROOKINGS - A hazardous-seas warning remains in effect off the Southern Oregon Coast through Saturday, with big swells and stiff winds forecast through the weekend. Ocean fishing appears to be a bust at least into next week.

PORT ORFORD - The ocean season for chinook salmon is open off the mouth of the Elk River, but rough seas have made fishing difficult if not unsafe.

TILLAMOOK - The ocean terminal fishery is on for chinook salmon, and anglers are still averaging two chinook for every five days of fishing.

COOS BAY - Crabbing is very good and the crabs are starting to harden in their shells. That means more and better meat. Clamming remains open and clammers are still working some of the flats around Charleston.
