John H. (Jack) Enders

Jack Enders spent many years traveling the world, relishing each and every adventure. He died at age ninety-two on November 7, 2008, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Jack was born on B Street in Ashland on April 12, 1916, the son of Henry G. Enders, Jr., and Aimee Wing. He attended Ashland schools and was a graduate of Ashland High School and the University of Oregon, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity and a cadet colonel in the ROTC program. Obtaining a Master of Science degree in retailing from New York University, he later worked in the Panama Canal Zone.

Jack received his commission in the Army Air Corps, and subsequently was commanding officer training pilots at Randolph Field in Texas. During this time he married Lore Windsor, of Pendleton, Ore. Their daughters, Tanya and Vicky, were born in Texas. Within two years the family accompanied him to Bolivia where, because of his fluency in Spanish, he was sent to train Bolivian Air Force pilots. The family lived for two years in La Paz and Cochabamba, Bolivia. Before de-commissioning, he was written up in the Congressional Record as being the youngest Lieutenant Colonel in the history of the Army Air Corps.

After the war, Jack and his family returned to Oregon where John Henry, Jr., was born. Jack began a new career in sales. After he and Lore were divorced, Jack moved to southern California, where he was sales manager for a real estate developer on the coast and in Palm Desert eventually becoming a yacht broker in Newport Beach. He lived for many years on Balboa Island and returned to southern Oregon after retirement. He later married Lois Blackstone, of Medford. They were married for more than thirty years.

In addition to his family, Jack loved sailing, spending over twenty years sailing the seas when he could on the "Chicharo," and later relaxing at his cabin at Union Creek. One of his favorite adventures in life was driving a Volkswagen camper around Europe, North Africa and Canada for over a year.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his best friends, Jim and Chat Keeble; and his first wife, Lore Cortez. In addition to Lois and her extended family, he is survived by his children, Tanya Enders Beach and Gary, of Healdsburg, Calif., Victoria Enders Hinsley and Kit, of Sedona, Ariz., and John H. Enders and Anne, of Ashland; four grandchildren, Bethany Cotton, of Portland, Ore., Megan Cotton, of Cadiz, Spain, John Daniel Enders, of Medford, Ore., and Aimee Enders Moreno and Jose Luis of Sevilla, Spain; two great-granddaughters, Hope and Jade Enders; and his brother, Halbert "Hob" Deuel, Jr. and Barbara, of Medford, and their children, Melissa, Diane and Halbert III.

A family gathering to share memories and celebrate his life was held at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008. Funeral arrangements were handled by Litwiller-Simonsen of Ashland.
