Hildegart-Irene Kurt

Please join us in honoring Irene at a memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at — p.m. at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1900 Greenwood, Medford. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Siskiyou School in Ashland, Rogue Opera Guild or Rogue Valley Adventist School. After living 93 eventful years, she passed away in the care of her only daughter, Rosi, on the morning of Oct. 11, 2008, at her home.

Irene retired to Medford from the Bay Area with her husband, Johannes, in 1979. They were active supporters of the arts as Opera Guild members, and Britt Festival artist hosts, and the refurbishment of the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theatre. Having originated from Germany, they frequently shared their heritage by presenting slide shows in schools. Irene would frequently ride her bicycle to Jacksonville, where she volunteered musically at a Waldorf School. She also enjoyed entertaining at senior facilities in the area.

Irene was known for her distinctive accent. She was an avid walker. She loved people and she loved God. Living in the Rogue Valley nearly thirty years, she attended or studied with practically every variety of Christian fellowship available. People loved her smile and childlike faith. Outliving Johannes by eight years, she enjoyed life to the fullest as she continued to travel, as long as she was able. Her example spreading joy wherever she could leaves the world a better place than she found it. May she rest in peace.
