Kenneth Otis Walter

Kenneth, 85, of Roseburg, Ore., passed away at his home surrounded by his daughter, son-in-law and caregivers on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008. He was born on June 3, 1923, in Polson, Mont., to Herman Allen and Mary Estelle (Clouser) Walter. He moved to the Rogue Valley in the early 1960s and began his career in construction and excavation. Kenneth married Norma Jean Huffman on May 8, 1964, in Ashland, Ore. Together they raised two daughters, Kenda Jean and Maryann. Mr. Walter was an avid outdoorsmen. He loved to hunt, fish, camp and spend winters RV'ing in Arizona. In 2006, he relocated to Roseburg, Ore., to be closer to his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean; parents; brothers, Vernon and Arnold; and sisters, Edith and Betty. Special thanks to his caregivers, Tammie Miller and Teresa Jarvis, as well as the Mercy Hospice staff assigned to him, Sally, Tim and Wendy. He is survived by his daughters, Kenda J. (Bill) Householder, of Glide, Ore., Maryann Walter, of Milwaukie, Ore., and Judith (Richard) Niederegger, of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Virgil Walter, of Kalispell, Mont.; and sister, Mildred Walter, of Temecula, Calif. Interment was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Medford, Ore. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice of Roseburg, Ore.
