Dear President-elect Obama:

Dear President-elect Obama:

Decent health care for Americans is at the top of your agenda. At the same time, U.S. automakers are in trouble and their collapse would be devastating to the country.

One of their biggest obligations is the health-care entitlements of their employees and retirees. Could the automakers and unions be made a partner here in finding a solution?

If universal health care can replace the current, wasteful programs that benefit primarily big Pharma and the medical industry, automakers and unions stand to benefit as well. Automakers would get relief from health-care burdens. Union workers would get continued jobs here in America and decent health care if automakers stay solvent.
