Megan Wiuff and Grant Hendrix have been named North Medford High School's October Students of the Month.

Megan Wiuff and Grant Hendrix have been named North Medford High School's October Students of the Month.

Megan Wiuff, daughter of John and Sandra Wiuff, is a senior at North Medford High School. She has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.988 while taking honors or advanced-level courses in all five core academic areas during high school. She has been active as a volunteer, a camp counselor and in leadership roles in Campus Life. Her community service endeavors include membership on her church worship team, serving as a camp counselor for Wilderness Trails and participating in the "Project Serve" mission trip. While at North, she has been involved with the Chefs in Black culinary arts program, the French Club, the theater troupe, Link Crew and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. An accomplished vocalist, she is a valuable part of North Medford High School's elite Chamber Choir this year. She has earned advanced college credits through Southern Oregon University and plans to study nursing while in college.

Grant Hendrix, son of David and Lisa Hendrix, also is a senior at North Medford High School. He has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.4-plus. Among his many honors are his standing as a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist and a Two-Star Thespian in the International Thespian Society. A talented musician, he is a member of both the North Medford wind ensemble and the marching band. He has pursued fencing at the Southern Oregon Fencing Club and has been active in the school French Club, Brain Bowl and Mock Trial programs. He lists music, theater, fencing, wallball and debating as some of his many interests. His short-term goal is to qualify this fall for the selective Western International Band Clinic. After graduation, he plans to attend college somewhere in the Northwest and continue his pursuit of the performing arts throughout his life.

Medford Elks Lodge 1168 announced the following "Student of the Month" awards for September and October 2008 at Hanby Middle School in Gold Hill.

Jenna Arruda, sixth grade, daughter of John and Virginia Arruda of Gold Hill; Sandi Shelton, seventh grade, daughter of Jeff and Kim Shelton of Central Point; and Paige Gerhard, eighth grade, daughter of Sandra Gerhard of Central Point.

October 2008

Riley Sutphin, sixth grade, son of Ron and Denise Sutphin of White City; Donavon Pickle, seventh grade, son of Cristy Pickle of White City; and Shayla Bewley, eighth grade, daughter of Jack and Renee Bewley of White City.
