Susan Kay Stoenner Olsen

Aug. 1, 1947 - Nov. 25, 2008

Susan passed on early in the morning on a Tuesday. She will be remembered as a respected and competent worker's compensation administrator, but her best work was as Mother to her two sons, Jasen and Justin. Susan gave her all to her family, employer, and community.

Susan was born to Madge Kirk Stoenner and Dr. Herbert G. Stoenner, on Aug 1, 1947, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Stoenner family moved to Hamilton, Mont., where Dr. Stoenner took a position with the Rocky Mountain Laboratory. Susan's siblings, Craig, Carole and Debra, soon followed. She grew up in the Bitterroot Valley, going through grade and high school in Hamilton.

In August of 1971, Susan married Soren (Sam) Olsen in a garden wedding. For the occasion, she sewed her own dress as well as her new husband's suit. In 1973, she followed Sam to a small eastern Washington town of Davenport. There she gave birth to sons, Jasen and Justin, and was a stay at home mom through the boy's formative years. In 1977, she followed Sam to Jacksonville, Ore. She found employment with Boise Cascade, and managed claims for Boise Cascade, and later, at Roseberg Forest Products of Dillard, Ore. She was president of Oregon Self Insured Organization, chairperson for Southern Oregon Employers Council, and a Medford Chamber legislative committee chairperson. She served on the board of the YMCA, and was a major fund raiser for Britt Festivals, United Way, and the YMCA. Susan retired in June of 2008, looking forward to family, friends, and growing old in Jacksonville. In the end, Susan took care of everyone but herself, and illness prematurely took her from us. She leaves her mark on every family member who will remember her skills in cooking, sewing, mothering and loving. She will be forever on our minds, a giving and loving wife, Mother, sibling, and Grandmother.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Sam; son, Jasen (Michelle), of Birmingham, Alabama, and son, Justin (Melissa) of Central Point, Ore.; grandchildren, Soren, Josiah, Elijah, Elianna, and Adrienne; brother, Craig Stoenner, of Boise, Idaho; sister, Carole (Edward) Cummings, of Stevenville, Montana; and sister; Debra (Jack) Jenkins, of Hayden Lake, Idaho. Services for Susan will be held at the Historic Jacksonville Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008. Flowers can be sent to the church, 405 California St., Jacksonville, OR. 97530. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given in Susan's name to the Guatemala Water Project at the Jacksonville Applegate Rotary Club, P.O. Box 1504, Jacksonville, OR. 97530, or Britt Festivals Endowment Fund P.O. Box 1124, Medford, OR. 97501, or the Lupus Foundation of America, www.lupus.org. The family wants to thank all for the love and support given to us. Susan will be missed but not forgotten.
