The graveside service for Edwin William Butler Cameron will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, at Scenic Hills Memorial Park, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Larson, of the Christian Church of Ashland. A visitation was held Monday at the Litwiller Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.



Mr. Cameron, 88, of Ashland, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at home. He was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Pine Burr, Miss., the son of Edna and Leonard Cameron. He moved as a child to Kosciusko, Miss., where he attended schools. In his youth he played on the Mississippi state basketball championship team. On March 18, 1940, in Kosciusko, he married the former Ruth Stewart who preceded him in death in 1997. During World War II, Mr. Cameron served in the U.S. Army. In 1951, he moved to Ashland and worked as an independent timber faller throughout Southern Oregon and Northern California.



He enjoyed fishing and football. Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Lynn Cameron Ward Jensen, of Ashland; two grandchildren, Alicia Lynn Ward Phillips (Frank) of Fresno, Calif., and Tod Edwin Cameron (Susan), of Billings, Mont.; daughter-in-law, Barbara Carmeron, of Las Vegas, Nev.; step grandson, Jon Paul Marroquin; four great grandsons, William Gregory Cameron, Nicholas Tod Cameron, Cameron F. Phillips, and Corbin Alec Phillips. He was preceded in death by son, William Bill Guyton; daughter, Betty Jean Cameron; two brothers; and two sisters.
