James M. Gann



James M. Gann, age 83, of Medford passed away Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Conger-Morris in Medford at 1:00p.m.



Jim was born June 5, 1925, in Conway, Mo., to Elic and Leda Gann. He grew up on the family farm, the youngest of nine siblings. He left home at 14 to join four of his brothers working in the logging industry in Oregon. He then served as a U.S. Marine during WWII. When he returned home, he worked primarily as a logger and heavy equipment operator for various companies throughout the Northwest. He was a member of the Local 701 Operating Engineer's Union. Jim also worked on the Applegate and Lost Creek Dams when they were being built. He retired in 1980.



On Sept. 28, 1957, he married Lucile Marie Smith at the West Main Church of Christ in Medford.



Jim had a passion for flying planes. He received his pilot's license in the 1960's and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also enjoyed hunting and camping with his family. He always had a story to tell and candy for the grandchildren.



Jim is survived by his wife, Lucile; son, Jimmy, of Albany; daughters, Shawnee Powers, of North Bend, Elaine (George) Chinnici, of Central Point; sons, Russell (Shawna) of Medford, Glen (Theresa) of Medford; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
