Mildred "Mickey" McCone



Mildred "Mickey" McCone, 91, of Medford, Ore., passed away Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at 4:00 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Manor, Medford, Ore. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rogue Valley Manor foundation, Medford, OR.



Mildred was born Feb. 18, 1917, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Francis and Maye Thomas. The family moved to Downey, Calif., in 1929, during the depression, they started a furniture business in Long Beach. In 1934 Mildred became a beauty operator in Pasadena, Calif. On April 3, 1942, she married Floyd C. McCone, who was in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In Roswell, New Mexico, Mickey worked at the base in the assembly department for military aircraft. Her daughter Rachelle was born on the base. In the spring of 1945, they moved back to Downey, Calif. On Jan. 27, 1952, she gave birth to her son, Malcolm. In 1967, they moved to Grants Pass, Ore., and March of 2000 they moved to the Rogue Valley Manor.



Mildred enjoyed upholstery, making flower arrangements, gardening, bible studies, bridge club, and traveling.



She is survived by daughter, Rachelle (Laurin) Braun; son, Malcolm (Kathleen); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Carl McCone; sisters, Jewel Huffman, and Thelma Thomas; and brother, Gene Thomas.



Mickey enjoyed all of her friendships and her many aquaintences at the Rogue Valley Manor. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
