Gerald Douglas "Jerry" Brotherston

Gerald Douglas "Jerry" Brotherston, 66, of Central Point, Ore., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Jerry was born on Aug. 14, 1942, in Prince George, BC Canada, to Earl Winston and Helen Isabel (Douglas) Brotherston. Jerry was raised and educated in Meeteetse and Thermopolis, Wyo. Jerry was known as a hard worker with a strong work ethic. This began while working as a child on ranches, then as a teenager in the oil fields. In 1959 he married Gina Mead. After the birth of their son, Gerald, the family moved to Medford, Ore., where they had a daughter, Kellee.

Jerry worked building swimming pools, before starting his own business, Gerald Brotherston Excavating. In recent years he worked for and retired from Visar Construction.

Jerry liked to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed writing music and playing the guitar. He loved animals and took in rescue horses. He always looked for the good in people and tried to help those less fortunate.

Karen and Bob Pattan shared his home over many years; he loved them like his own children and he was their Dad. In 1976, he welcomed into their family, a son, Eric, and a daughter, Jeannie Faye.

Jerry is survived by his sons, Jerry (Becky) Brotherston, of Puyallup, Wash., Bob (Sheree) Pattan, of Medford, Ore., Eric (Shelly) Norman, of Eugene, Ore.; daughters, Kellee (Tim) Ryken, of Custer, Wash., Karen Reeves, of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jeannie Faye (Robert) Goodman, of Medford, Ore.; brother, Dennis (Sharron) Nielsen, of Puyallup, Wash.; sister, Ember (Kent) Mathewson, of Dalles Port, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; and friends.
