Mary E. Schade

Mary E. Schade, 86, passed away Jan. 23, 2009, in Sequim, Wash., where she had lived for the last year.

Mary was born to Roy and Sylvia (Beckman) Shreve on April 16, 1922, in Salem, Ore. They moved to Medford when she was an infant. After her graduation from Medford High, she served as Queen of the Shakespearean Festival and traveled the state as Goodwill Ambassador for the Festival. She later attended Medford Business College. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry N. Schade, on March 10, 1943, in Phoenix, Ariz. They were a true couple for 38 years until his too early death in 1981.

Frequent trips to the Oregon coast, camping with wonderful friends, or their special trip to Hawaii in 1976, meant the world to them both. Mary had helped the family jewelry business but in 1960 she went to work full time for Pacific Power & Light, retiring in May of 1987. She later was able to travel throughout the world with life long friends, seeing the Taj Mahal, the Swiss Alps, and touring Canada via rail car, which filled her with many exciting memories.

She is survived by her son, Eric (Linda) Schade, of Ariel, Wash.; daughter, Kristine (Jim) Bryce, of Sequim, Wash.; sister, Janice Morris, of Medford, Ore.; one niece, Sylvia (Roger) Leatherman; nephews, Tom (Judy) Morris, Brett (Diane) Morris, of Medford,Ore., and Larry (Linda) Klinefelter of Sequim, Wash.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren, of Oregon and Washington states.

Mary will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We have wonderful memories of her boundless generosity, humor and wit. She was wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. She asks that you "remember her with smiles and laughter, for that is how she'll remember you all. If you can only remember her with tears than don't remember her at all."
