MEDFORD — A two-block swath of South Oakdale Avenue will be closed Wednesday and Thursday as a 165-ton crane lifts air conditioning units onto Medford City Hall.

Ausland Builders Inc. crews will close the road between West 8th and West 10th streets at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The area will be shut off to the public until 5 p.m. Thursday.

"It's going to be a dangerous lift," said Ausland Builders Inc. President Aaron Ausland. "The air conditioners themselves weigh about 16 tons apiece and they are going to be lifted high in the air."

The project is part of a major renovation of City Hall.

The $3.3 million renovation is expected to wrap up in July. When completed, City Hall will have new heating and air conditioning systems, light fixture upgrades, replacement of water lines and remodeled City Council chambers and some offices.
