Diane E. McLeod

1936-2008

Diane E. McLeod passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 23, 2008. A Memorial Mass was held Jan. 2, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford, Ore.

Diane was born Eugenie Diane Owens in Philadelphia, Pa., and raised in North Wildwood, N.J., where her younger sister, Antoinette, still lives. Diane graduated from Saint Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Md., with a double major in Biology and Chemistry in 1958 and married her college sweetheart, James McLeod, later that same year. Four children immediately followed the newlyweds over the next five years. Diane was one of the early success stories beating Hodgkin's disease in the 1970s. The family moved from Lake Hiawatha, N.J., to Montclair, N.J., and Hanover, Mass. A job transferred the family to the West Coast of California to the San Francisco Bay Area where they lived, worked, and entertained family and friends until retirement in 2000. Diane and James loved the rural outdoors and retired to Medford, Ore. Both loved to travel and visited Europe several times. Diane always had a book in her hands as an avid reader of suspense and thriller novels. James died in 2004. Diane was a devoted animal lover and rescued a dog-in-need in 2005. Lucky and Diane trained together to work in nursing homes, schools, and hospitals as a therapy dog. Both loved their work.

Diane was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, and friend. She always loved a good laugh and good bowl of pasta.

Diane is survived by her mother, Jeanette Melchiorre Owens; sister, Antoinette Kill; four children, James, Stephanie, Thomas, and Christopher; and seven grandchildren.
